What is your program?
CogREAD PASS (Proficient Achievement through Strong Skills) combines online learning skills training with focused mentoring to improve learning proficiency, develop confident learners, prevent reading difficulties, and enhance the learning environment. PASS is not new curriculum; it supports the effectiveness of any existing reading curriculum. Even struggling students have the opportunity to catch up to and keep pace with their peers in real time and read at grade level within the school year.
Three indispensable elements are required for academic success: effective curriculum, effective teaching, and effective learning. Effective learning is comprised of skill and confidence, which are interrelated. Most often through lack of socioeconomic opportunity, students who struggle to learn enter school with a gap in foundational learning skills of 1-3 years. During this critical period they must master the complex task of learning to read, are susceptible to peer-labeling because they struggle, and may never develop the confidence to become fully engaged learners. Given the opportunity, these students are fully capable of matching the performance of their resourced peers. PASS supports teachers’ efforts to strengthen the foundational skills that empower reading and learning success in every student.
A significant body of independent research proves that the most common cause of reading struggles is weak learning skills, primarily phonemic awareness skills, phonics skills, and vocabulary skills, all of which are an integral part of the common core standards for reading. CogREAD’s first and primary mission is to help schools ensure that every student develops a strong set of foundational reading skills. Once a strong foundation is established through CogREAD’s PASS training, students go on to develop other critical learning skills such as working memory, attention, processing speed, visual processing and logic and reasoning with our PASS+ program.
We recently added a supplemental reading program called Reading Kingdom to our recommendations for grades K-2. This online program helps beginning readers to master key reading concepts in context and enhance reading proficiency faster. This is especially important for any student who has a skill gap.
