Reading proficiency is foundational to success in any subject. One large independent study confirmed that when reading scores improved, math and science scores improved also with no further emphasis on these subjects. This study has been chronicled in a book entitled: Annual Growth for All Students, Catch-Up Growth for Those Who Are Behind; Fielding, Kerr and Rosier, The New Foundation Press, Inc, 2007. Although we have not studied math and science scores separately yet, schools are reporting overall gains in all tested subjects. One independent researcher, Dr. Oliver Hill, has reported preliminary results which show gains in math and science scores.
