Welcome to the tutorial for Visual Puzzle.

Students must join pieces of a puzzle together. In more advanced levels pieces will come apart and some must be rotated to fit. Numbers are introduced throughout the puzzle with a plus, minus or multiplication sign and students are asked to provide a final answer at the end of the puzzle. This exercise is much more challenging than a traditional jigsaw puzzle game.

Skills trained:

Major: VP-manipulation, VP-discrimination, selective attention, processing speed, working memory

Minor: sustained attention, long term memory, logic and reasoning, comprehension, saccadic fixations

When you first click to begin any exercise, you will see the instruction screen. These instructions change for each level. There is a link to play an audio version of the instructions if needed.

Otherwise click OK to go to the next screen. On the next screen, click start to begin the exercise.

Below are the instructions for level 1. Click OK when ready to start.

Click Start when ready to begin the puzzle. Puzzles will vary by level and become more complex at higher levels.

Different complications will be added at higher levels.

Sometimes the puzzle pieces will be turned. Click on the puzzle piece and hit the space bar to rotate that piece.

Sometimes puzzle pieces will be moving. Click to stop. You may have to click multiple times. As the puzzle is completed the distraction will be less.

Sometimes puzzle pieces will break away after you have put them together. You must catch them again and put them back in place.

As the puzzle pieces are put together, numbers will temporarily be displayed on the screen.

Remember the number and perform the calculation shown.

This is the first number and it shows to add. So the running total is now 3. If +2 comes up later, you would add 2 to the original 3 and the final answer would be 5.

If the first number were +3 and the next number were -2, the total would be 1.

If the puzzle is successfully completed, enter the ending total of all the numbers displayed during play as shown below.
