The primary goal of the training in grades K-2 is to help prepare students so they will pass the 3rd grade state reading assessment. Other scores are likely to improve also because the training helps students focus and learn more effectively for all subject areas. Learning how to read helps students succeed in all subject areas.

For older students, the goal is to help improve underlying learning and reading skills to empower them to learn more effectively so they will be able to pass the state assessment for their grade once they have caught up academically, which may take a year or two post intervention depending upon how far behind the student is.

In grades K-2, we use whatever assessments each school is already using to assess academic progress. Most schools are already using something such as DIBELS or equivalent and do a minimum of two tests, once at the beginning of the school year and one at the end. Some also do one at mid-year. Most states are implementing new tests tied to the common core state standards. In some cases, we will use our own nationally recognized assessment as needed.

For specific skills, it will be clear whether or not each student has mastered that particular skill based upon their performance in the training. In some cases we have an assessment that can also measure that skill. Examples include Letter Sound awareness and sight word vocabulary.
